I haven't geotagged them yet. just giving it a start but when I tried to assign the way point from the photo page it it says click the map and it didn't work. I gave up to go to bed.

You need to Geotag you photos. You can do this manually though Flickr. Then they'll appear on your track, and not in the middle of the ocean.
How are you creating the track? There are ways to automatically tag your photos from the GPS tracks.
